Clutch noise

    So my 2012 JK is making a rattling noise, but it goes away when I press the clutch pedal in just abit. It doesn’t always make the noise but when it does it’s somewhat annoying and I’m having my worries that it could lead to a problem. I’m new to the Jeep scene, and I don’t have much knowledge on mechanical work. Any advice or help would be awesome.

    Did you mean the throw bearing clutch?

    Probably just the throw out bearing not the clutch.

    On my older CJ I had a similar issue where the noise would quit when the pedal is depressed or when driving noise would cancel it out. This happened just after I installed an aftermarket clutch. Turned out the problem was caused by the new clutch rubbing against the bell housing dust cover. I pried the dust cover out a bit and the noise went away, this was after I replaced a new throw out bearing as I thought that was the problem. I am thinking you might have a problem with the crankshaft moving back and forth as you operate the clutch, causing the crankshaft to move back and forth due to worn bearings and rubbing against something. This sounds pretty wild and would like to hear from some of the more experienced engine mechanics.

    Yeah, that's why I asked for a second opinion. My CJ only has around 90 grand on the ticker, but prying out that bell housing dust cover did the trick. As I used a stethoscope to locate the problem area. So maybe adding that aftermarket clutch with some slightly worn bearings caused my issue, I think there was some similarity with Diego805s problem, and it was a very simple fix, minus the throw out bearing replace. A misadjusted clutch, could very well caused Diego's issue, or just a lot of miles of having too much fun.

    The crank moving in/out is a sign of a thrust bearing being worn out, but we are talking movement of like 7 thousandths of an inch is worn out.

    It could be the throw out bearing, I did have my clutch replaced.

    I would’ve thought they would have replaced the throwout bearing at the same time. Too cheap of a part not to spend the money on the bearing at the same time as you do your clutch
