Which years and models had the 249 transfer case? I'm wanting to go to a salvage yard to pull a 249 transfer case for my 93 ZJ and as a future reference, I would like to know which years and models had the 249 transfer case that way I can look for those at salvage yards.

these cases came in ’93-’98 ZJ (NV249 Quadra-Trac)

From 1993 to 1995 the New Process NP249 transfer. And from 1996 to 1998 the transfer case with some minor improvements and it was renamed the NV249.

NV249 transfer case, added a mechanical differential lock to 4WD Low mode, making it much more durable for serious off-road use.

I have no interchange on trans or input output splines.

    Its never easy

93-95, available in all ZJ models (Sport, Laredo, Limited)? What difference was made between the 2 ?

I would look at the transfer case ID tag - if it said NP249 I would be satisfied.

Check the fluid and the transfer case and it was bright red. When I tightened it all back up the drain plug was loose so I tightened it down. After hearing the engine idle a lot better and gauges on the right levels after the thermostat replacement I'm going to take it on the highway and update you with the drivability change

I found a transfer case at a local salvage yard and it's a np249 about the only one I can find in town right now but the mileage is 258000PHOTO_20190915_101541.jpg PHOTO_20190915_101718.jpg

do the math - what do they want for it?
Also a PCM, I don't want to get into correct ones for youur specific jeep but they are becoming a good 'back up' to have on the spare parts shelf. But its the $$. MAKE AN OFFER ON BOTH - 200$ THEY PULL IT CLEAN IT AND LOAD IT....

It's a U Pull salvage, so I'll have to pull it. But your saying if I pull the transfer case, I need to pull the PCM with it? Any way I can test it before I pull it ?

I think @Awrench recommends a spare PCM. Since you're doing the pulling you'll have no problem with the install.
