Im usually a chevy guy or a v8 guy
Im at a place im being offered a 2005 jeep cherokee 4x4 with quadra trac 1 v6 3.7.

So first off 175k miles trucks spotless and good looking.

My concerns is im new to jeep and the full time awd (4x4) system and the quality of 2005 recalls qnd reliability.

    Truck price $5000

    My question
How reliable are these trucks. Im used to manual shift 4x4 with manual lockers 4high 4low etc. This quadra trac system scares me. More moving parts alot of electrical components. How many have owned this vehicle. Whats your experience. Whats repair costs. How reliable. How longbwill a 3.7 last is it a problematic motor. Any info you guys could give me would be extremely appreciated. Also does this year have the notorious jeep death rattle issue ?

Thank you so much for your time.
    My purchase is between this and a 95 4runner rebuilt 3.0 with 29k 4x4 5speed.
Im in a position thats tight atm and i cant afford to get myself in a money pit.

Coming off hard times, the balls rolling i cant back slide.

Again thank you all for your time and participation.

    Godbless

I guess you are looking at a GRAND cherokee.

Not your iconic jeep brute 'utility' vehicle thats the wrangler this is a civilized or softer model.
Its designed not so much for off road as it is for hiway with ability to deal with unpaved - dirt, gravel, snow covered, hard sand, while having the luxuries heated seats, power everything and audio systems to capture the true geek. The more options the more that can go wrong.

Expense - the luxury has a price when you acquire it and when it fails. Complexity and technology for the sake of technology MICAHI is a mantra at jeep.

If the seller is NOT an authorized jeep dealer offering it as a 'certified" used jeep with the certified warranty I suggest you avoid this unless you are comfortable with auto electronics and have a SCANNER that will do reflashes and has access to jeeps data base.

Yea i dont care of luxury but its gunna be a daily that id like to be capable, not good with electronics and thats what sways me away from this year is to much room for shit to break , i am used to manual 4x4 locking lockers manually stepping in mud and putting it in neutral engaging and backing up to let it engage and pushing forward. It was just a clean vehicle i currently have a 2001 chevy tahoe with a
5.3 vortech v8 center locking diff 4hi and low its a beast. I just need a secone vehicle in the $4-7000 range that has balls and isnt a money pit.

I am a curmudgeon - turning wrenches for 40+ years, these option loaded later models are not friendly to work on for DIYers.
Gone are the simple engine, trans, manual control.
Now it integrated computer controlled, fragile, temperamental, expensive unworkable, I am old and now getting out of this trade.
A 15 year old Grand Cherokee would not be on my 2nd car list.
As I think what would be ? IDK

IMO 14 yr old vehicles @175K would fit into the "money pit" arena. Today's vehicles are heavily electronic laden with many integrated and complex systems that work great when they work. The 3.7 in the JGC will just be just adequate for DD with 210HP. Perhaps it was maintained well and gently driven so get a thorough evaluation.
