Put in a new fuel pump. No gauge now. 30 amp fuse for engine control kept blowing...put in 40....runs good when I can get it to start. Have fuel delivery but only when after motor cranked.
What could be wrong or where do I start.

You are going to have to track down the short, I would suggest looking underneath the vehicle, starting at the fuel pump wiring hot line.

Brings back nightmares of my 00 XJ.
Fuse 11, 20amp controls the ecm, tcm, fuel pump.
Pulled the transmission wiring harness as I read it wasn't uncommon for the harness to get pinched between the bell housing and trans tunnel. Couldn't find a short and reinstalled.
Pulled the fuel pump wiring and found nothing.
After all that I ran the Jeep hard around the property and didn't blow a single fuse. But since I didn't find anything I didn't feel comfortable with it being on the road.
I ended up using it as a trade in and it drove great all the way to town so.... I don't know.

If you did not have the problem before replacing the fuel pump, I would disconnect and then reconnect the fuel pump.
