1946 cj2 will not start

    I have a 1946 cj2 that quit running on me out at the deer lease a few weeks ago. I noticed the fuel pump wasent pumping fule so i thought it went out. Put new one on and nothing. I did a tune up on it a few weeks befor that and it was running good. I have good spark and the new fuel pump i put on is an electric and it is working good. I put a 4 to 7 lb on with a pressure switch inline. And it still would not start. So i put a brand new carburetor on and still nothing.
    It turnes over good and fast and it tries to run but will not catch and stay running. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    You said you tuned it up. I assume that means plugs, cap and rotor. make sure cap is tight and plug wires are tight.

    That was what I thought on the timing but we're not getting any backfire and as far as the plug wires and cap they're all good and tight

    You don't need a back fire to prove being off. My buddy rebuilt his 258 and marked the distributor, cap and wires. He couldn't get it to start for nothing. Turned out he had his wires rotated off by one. I had him crank the motor while I turned his cap until we got a fire and kept it running at which point I set the timing (remember to do this with the vacuum disconnected). I was able to turn the distributor a full 180* with no popping or back firing.

    Also, What plugs did you use. These old CJs only like solid copper cored plugs like Autolite and Champion copper plugs. Anything fancy and they won't run worth a darn. I tried to install Bosche platinums once in my CJ-7 and it would hardly start and barely ran. After researching I found the above to be true.

    Found my problem. Put old condenser coil back on and it started right up.

    Yes i think that is whats in it. Runs pretty good when its running lol
