Is there a certain process to follow when putting my 1995 Cherokee into 4WD, I haven’t done it yet but getting that it’s winter it would be helpful in getting out of my driveway and I don’t want to ruin anything on the car in trying to do it.

Put in Neutral, while slowly rolling, and shift it directly, and firmly, into Low Range.

Generally the transfer case is shift-on-the-fly. In other words moving the lever from 2WD to 4H can be done in motion up to 50ish mph (refer to manual). Now 4L is recommended to be engaged at 1-2 mph or stopped. Now if you have full-time it will be similar for 4L.

@aggrex is correct. My post was simply when shifting into low :)

Good plan as you don't want to find out things are not working in the middle of a storm. Engaging 4H and/or 4L will give you a greater appreciation of your jeeps capability. Perhaps try the system out on a dirt road so there is less binding of the system. Since you're asking about jeep 4WD systems I strongly recommend these part-time systems be left in 2WD while on dry pavement.
