I want to bypass the a.c on my xj. I'm not seeing a way to do so with out spending 60 on a bracket with a pulley to replace the ac all together. Any ideas? Is there a way to run the belt with out the a.c on it? Without moving the alternator right now.

I think I have heard of people just using a different length belt.
The pulley and bracket are about $38 on Amazon.
Maybe try a junkyard? Though I can't imagine you will find many.
My 93 is the only one I have seen in my area without A/C.

Hey, did you find that the A/C was the cause of your belt flying off?

Yes after I start the jeep it heats up and you can see it start to seize up and then bam! Belt snapped in half again. So I got a bracket with pulley to replace pump all together. Screw ac dont need that in newyork anyways. @Prerunner1982 its flush I took washers out cause I thought that would've helped it.

Using the longest section between pulleys I press down on the belt and make sure there isn't any more than 1/2" deflection, or about to the first knuckle on your pointer finger.
Others say using the longest section, twist the belt and you should not be able to turn it more than 90°.

Is the a/c removal necessary? Wrangler I could understand but having a functional a/c is not just for cooling. Helps in the winter time too.

Gotcha! Ole @Awrench used to post about not ripping these systems out haphazardly and I find the defrosting function very helpful on some wintery days

Lol...mine came with it deleted, so I don’t have a choice! Though the 96 I bought for the motor swap did have it...but the compressor was different, with different connections than my 99. I still have the compressor out of the 96....

Mine was never hooked up anyways so figured might as well get rid of it to see if it helped my specific issue. It kinda helped belt still comes up but now I know it's not that atleast. Did a straight edge and a laser light. Looks like the alternator isnt lined up? Wierd but it's the only one out of wack now besides the ps.

So back at this dam thing after work today. Was going threw the interweb past couple nights. What about the Bearing for the fan? I'm so confused off this dam jeep lol. Changed all pulleys besides the water pump fan and the alternator (I know you cant switch the alternator pulley) correct me if I'm wrong on that. I'm losing my mind over this problem. Everyone that's helped with it cant figure it out either.

Hey, just checking in with this....did you take care of it?

I find that my XJ likes the belt really tight...if it is even a little bit loose the belt squeaks a bit at cold start up.

Found out ot was actually the fan pulley I took fan off and went to junkyard got 2 pulleys for like 6 bucks so I have a few extra now just incase. Anyway I took all that off put new pulley on put belt on started up and stayed on for a while then got called in to work. So yesterday i went and put a different fan on from the other motor and the belt stayed on so i proceeded to put my 31x10.50 coopers on with no lift. Doesnt rub yet but i have 2 inch spacers (getting different spacers these are to big) but all in all belt is on my problem was the fan but hey it works. Now I got that dam vent hose to take care off after work and shop for smaller spacers I dont like my jeep looking like a ricer mobile

LOL, I hear you with that! I went with new steel wheels with the proper back spacing for my Falken 33x12.50 and RC 4.5" lift. I trimmed/cut/folded as recommended. I wanted NOTHING to do with spacers, seen waaaay too many horror stories involving them!
