Smog system won't read the computer

    my 2006 wrangler sat for a year and battery went dead. It was time for smog check here in California, so installed new battery, went to get the smog done and the smog system won't read the computer. Jeep runs great but can't get the smog done. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks

    Welcome! It might have to go thru a few operation cycles before they can read it. I may be mistaken, but I thought I was told it had to be driven and shut down a few times. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

    The system has to reset/retest itself and this takes some time. By design, this can take a week or so of decent use to do. Most of the test work right away but two of them, the O2 sensors and the evap systems test are the ones that take time. The extra time just makes it harder for folks to trick the test.

    Personally, my fix for the issue is move to Montana. (hint: no smog test)

    Well I went to the smog testing place and still the computer wouldn't read but the tech ran the test anyway and it passed smog, go figure. Soon I'll have the computer re flashed at the dealer. I'll let you know what happens
