    Converting to 91 4.0L 5-spd. Bought a wrecked 91 Saraha 65k miles.
Been busy, but have made PROGRESS! I want all to know this YJ is NOT going to be a trailer queen by any means!! My attitude at the start and throughout this has been to bring this rig out of the neglectful existence it was trapped in, and get her out of the shop and into the life she was designed for. That being said, she will have all of her lifelines,(scratches, dents, dings, etc. ) to show her experiences to all interested, intact. I did have to replace her rotted windscreen frame and windshield, along with some minor wiring, (entire front, rear, and engine harnesses).
Also had to r/r some rotten rusted metal in various places, and a new fuel tank, pump, feed/return lines/hoses, ECM, both Amp. and temp. 20200104_112625.jpg 20200101_114733.jpg 20200101_114858.jpg 20200101_114644.jpg 20200101_114641.jpg gauges, tail lights. Not that much really considering she is 31. Going from the 4.2 L carb six to the 4.0L injected six with a 5 spd trans from the auto trans was straight forward, swapped out with little issue. New rear drive line, new u-joints and new trans mounts included.
One thing I did notice was the lack of a neutral safety switch on the 5-spd. trans. i searched all the forums to no avail, no one had one. SO, I came up with a fix, bought a small momentary switch, built a mount, and added it to the clutch peddle to clutch cylinder arm at the firewall under the dash. I took pics, but it might be hard to see. I'll be happy to share with anyone how I did it and the parts required. I also had to r/r both doors to repair some rust and to replace all the weatherstripping, as well as the driver side latch assy. Almost done!!! Planning to have her on the dirt by Spring, 2020......

Impressive amount done so far. So the motor mounts were compatible between the 4.2 + 4.0L?

Nope, mounts can be used from either jeep.I used the mounts that came with the donor 4.0, but they are the same as the 89 4.2. I attached the pics of the clutch arm and the new neutral safety switch for folks to see. I fabricated a mount, welded it to the inner mount for the clutch master cylinder, and used Velcro to attach it to the new mount. The switch is a N.O.(normally open) 120-240 V momentary switch used in many applications. You can find it at (Sempco Switches) on the net. I cut the lead from the ignition switch going to the starter,(blue connector, last pic), and added the switch lead, so to send a signal to the starter, the clutch peddle has to be engaged far enough to accuate the switch arm, (the blue button on the switch). I used the Velcro for ease of removal, and lack of space.
