Hi I recently bought 2 yjs for kids
I had tj and now jkur.
Got the yjs because they were in decent shape and run good.
    Looking for general issues.
Does the 95 have a computer?

Computers began around 1980 in the CJ. The internet is loaded with stuff on the YJ.

YJ jeeps over 25 years old could have issues that are atypical. Common issues are usually rusty body parts or frame depending upon location and maintenance. 6cyl are preferred especially the better manual trans. YJs are old enough to probably need multiple system replacements but they are simpler machines that can be simpler to restore.

If I am not mistaken the YJ computer can be bypassed. As it only controls the ignition and fuel system. Providing the emissions systems are not required, this only applies to the carb equipped 258 six. The YJ has a galvanized frame as I recall.

Until the late 1990s, the YJs were equipped with two types of engine, a 4.2-liter carbureted engine and a 2.5-liter version that had a sort of simple fuel injection system. Starting in early 1991, the 4.0-liter engine was introduced as a standard upgrade for various versions of the jeepwrangler YJ, the not-so-reliable peugeot BA10 transmission was also swapped out for aisin, AX-5 and AX-15 transmissions for 2-cylinder engines. , 5 and 4.0 liters respectively.

Regarding some common problems with YJs, I would say one of them is flooding the floor when it rains, I have never been 100% sure exactly where the water enters, so make sure you have a couple of drain plugs from the jeep floor out of place when the weather man announces that it is going to rain.

Enjoy them, they are excellent platforms to use and modify.

My CJ came with (2) 1" diameter drain holes on the front floorboard, I have since added some behind the front seat. Water either enters or exits from them. I once was with a guy who had water from a flowing river go in at the door level and couple of guys had to stop it from floating downstream.

A common issue that a friend of mine had with his YJ is a failure in the automatic vacuum system that locks and unlocks the hubs when going in and out of 4 wheel drive.
