    Hi guys

So I am a very happy owner of a stock Unlimited Rubicon JL 2020.
Now, as menacing as the Jeep looks right from the factory, I think it should be prepped for any off-roading that is one step above of a simple unpaved trail, travelling which some folks would consider a serious off-road adventure.

I am looking for advice from experienced guys as to what equipment (winch, towing gear, what else?) I need to buy and install.
Types, brands and names of shops who do installations is what I am looking for.

At this point I am not looking for anything drastic. No huge lifts. I am not yet ready to start cutting holes in the hood of a car I just spent over 60K bucks for.

And as long as we are at it, I am close to Jersey Shore and am looking to make acquaintances with folks who go offroading so I could join them.

    Mike

OK - my curmudgeon side - sorry age makes you think- This was expensive SO you do NOT want to toss the warranty out with a modification. So with your coffee Shop here.

I was told (could officially inquire) some mods are allowed, lift up to certain height in particular. I am sure if I cut the metal like when putting in a snorkel, they might frown on it.

    did you search the link - they have lifts, QUALITY , enough items to make your wallet a lot lighter;

What do you need off road for - fishing, the beach, dunes surfside, camping, potholes on RT9, winters storms, It will guide the mod suggestions.

Knowing it is NJ I did not add hunting.

I take Rt9 every day to work... no potholes. :)
    I don't hunt.
    Maybe camping.
I just like travelling offroad where a Mustang or even a Honda CrV would get stuck. A foot and a half if dirt is welcome too.

Bought a new 2019 JLU Sport S this past February. While i did want to get all the off road stuff right away, I started with the things that would help preserve it - Door sill entry guards, splash guards, floor mats, steering wheel cover, cheap floor mats for the cargo area. These were all no-name or generic stuff. The Weather Tech floor mats were "one-size fits all" from Costco.
My one exception was a set of LoD Signature Series Rock Sliders.

I still have the stock Michelin tires on it.

Let's not forget some good seat covers. I try my best to ensure the interior is well protected and so this was a essential purchase for me. I bought mine within a week of my purchase. I also have a 2019 JLU Sport S and I can see we think alike in terms of preservation haha

From my experience, I would invest in an air pressure gauge. As when going in the dirt the ride gets pretty rough and the traction decreases. Lowering the tire air pressure will solve both of those issues. The problem with that is airing the tires back up for the ride home and losing ground clearance on the trail. So you need a source somewhere to air back up. On my CJ, I use an a/c pump setup for onboard air that I can even run an impact wrench from.

Thinking bout taking a trip into Ocala national park down here inFlorida. Nothing too extreme in there so you think I would still need to air down if I take things slow?

If so, what portable options for airing down(and back up) you all recommend that won’t cost an arm and a leg?

Depending on the terrain airing down will increase traction and soften the impacts but if its mild leave it alone. At the minimum have a basic 12V air pump. That pump will be very slow but better than a hand pump. Not quite an arm+leg but I have the ARB twin and may pick up a ARB single for another vehicle. One nice option is the ARB twin is available in a tool box style meaning it can be transported by any vehicle and plug+play.

A simple but effective way of an onboard air system would include dual 12 volt air pumps combined with a 5 gallon air tank mounted underneath the vehicle. I used to carry some extra air in the spare tire, although that can get dangerous with too much air. It really depends just how serious you are about off road travel. How much you air down is up to you, I usually set my 33" tires to 10 p.s.i., this provides addition traction plus a somewhat comfortable ride. The way I see it good shock absorbers come into play here.

The Arb is definetely out of my price range. I just finally went back to work so need to keep things low cost. Looking at something in the $30-$40 range that will both deflate and inflate incase we get tougher terrain. They have different trails in there and I want to at least hit a creek and do some mudding.

    Any suggestions?

Deflate is not the problem. Inflate is the problem. I guess for the price range just one that you plug in to the lighter plug would have to work.

On Amazon they have this $65 Viair unit that would be better than most sub $30 units. When you get more involved in deflating and inflating or sell an arm you can always step up.

Thanks. That definitely looks like one I can afford once I get more involved with deflating.

My buddy has a plug one so we are covered for this trip.

Really need to decide this tonight if anyone has any input on these or something else in the $50-$60 range. Thanks!

Besides the VIAIR I am also considering this one below. What do you guys think? If you had to pick one to get which would you go with? The VIAIR or GSPSCN?

GSPSCN Portable Digital Car Tire Inflator with Gauge 150Psi Auto Shut-Off, Heavy Duty Double Cylinders 12V Air Compressor Pump with LED Light for Auto,Truck,Car,Bicycles and Other Inflatables

I'm only familiar with VIAIR. The GSPSCN has competitive specs but never heard of them and warranty on both is 1 yr
