So I just finished putting factory ac into my Jeep that had no factory ac. I had bought another Jeep of the exact same year to get parts off of including the factory ac components. Most of the ac parts in the parts Jeep were no good so I ended up getting new parts. Every major component in the ac system was replaced except for the evaporator and the low pressure line. I got all the replacement parts from rock auto except for the compressor, which I got from autozone only because rock auto didn’t have one. On my first test drive after charging the system I noticed a roaring noise when I got it up to 2000 rpms, I turned the ac off and it didn’t do it again. So what I want to know is, does this mean I got a crappy compressor? It was the only one I could find within my budget but I think it was a rebuilt one.

    Sounds like the cooling fan.

Try to determine whether the “roaring” noise is from the compressor or cooling fan. Does the noise occur when the a/c clutch engages? Compressor came pre-filled with oil?

I filled the compressor with oil myself. I do also have a water pump going bad so that could be it. I also have an ac leak from the one line I didn’t replace (figures). So I don’t want to turn on the compressor until I get the new line
