Hello everyone. I am new in this forum and looking for much needed help.
I have a 1982 CJ7 inline 6 cyl. no modifications. I will start the jeep and ride for hours without any problems. Once I stopped it would not re-start. It acts like it has no gas although tank is full. Next day the Jeep will start without any problem but run into the same issue.
Any suggestion as what might be the cause?
    Thanks

Welcome @Charliecj7 ...had a similar issue with my '69 Pontiac back in the day. When the starter got hot after running it refused to click until several hours later. Get the starter checked out and remove this variable.

So it sounds like the starter is turning over after it gets warmed up. I would suggest checking to see if the carb is getting any gas to it. If so then there must be an ignition issue preventing a startup.

I’ve had similar issues in the past with an older wagoner. For my particular situation it’s called vapor locking and has to deal with altitude and carb tuning. We bought a holly 4 barrel carb but it was a v8. Not sure what you have available for the in-line 6 but my buddy has the same issues and I’ve been suggesting to him to get the EFI kit. If he gets it I’ll update.

My brother had the vapor lock problem with his motor home. He corrected it by switching to an electric fuel pump with a return line to the gas tank.

An engine requires two items to start. An air/fuel mixture of around 15 to 1 and an ignition firing at the correct time. There are a few factors that can offset the combination of these two. So, a few tests will have to be made. Heat from a previous startup, running out of fuel are two of them. Working from the simplest solution first is easiest way to diagnose.

As mentioned vapor lock. You can buy some insulating material that fits around the fuel line. But before that, check the positioning of the line. I may have been moved or bend and is too close to the exhaust. Next time it happens, poor some water along the fuel line and then when you start it push the pedal to the floor and hold it there as you crank it.
