I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with around 170,000 miles that will idle fine without the rear breather tube connected to the the intake manifold but when I shift into gear it stalls out. When I put the breather tube back on I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it idling. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Things I have done

    • New battery
    • New crankshaft position sensor
    • New spark plugs
    • Cleaned the throttle body and IAC
    • Cleaned up some grounds, although not all which is what I will do next
    • Replaced the rear breather hose on the back of the valve cover
    • New distributor pickup coil (had to get a new one for a different Cherokee so figured it try it out on this one)

If your o-rings are shot and the valve seals are leaking with all those miles on it, you would be pushing a lot of blow by down the throttle body with the pcv system fully hooked up. This would affect the operation of the engine. Check the condition of the pcv valve.

I did forget to mention that I did get a new valve cover gasket. I will check into the PCV valve.
