We have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 that has the 3.6L V6 V. The Towing capacity from jeep is 6200 with a Max payload of 1,270 pounds for the 4WD version with this engine. Can someone explain it to me...what can I tow and what can I add for gear and what is the Difference in the payload vs towing capacity and GVW? Thanks

The easiest way I can explain it payload say for a pick up truck is how many pounds you can put in the bed towing capacity is how many pounds the vehicle is capable of towing/pulling

    Thanks for the info!

So if that is the case, I can tow a 5000 pound camper and load it with 1200 pounds of gear, I can pull that with my 6200lb rated Grand Cherokee? Can I still add 1270 pounds of payload in the vehicle?

No, the trailer has a tongue weight that is loading down the rear of the vehicle. If the trailer had say a 600lbs tongue weight you would deduct that from the payload of the vehicle.

And while you’re prepping the Jeep for some serious towing consider adding an auxiliary AT cooler and maybe a PS cooler. This is a recent project on a non-Jeep but the same can be done 8FE3AC4D-A00E-4A6B-AEB1-02941FDB8B56.jpg
