I have a strange (sometimes) problem with my radio, if my dash has been in the shade the radio won’t pick up any radio station, why does this happen? And would getting an aftermarket radio help fix it? Keep in mind I just want to plug my phone in and listen to music. Would leaving it in the shade with an aftermarket radio still let me plug my phone in and listen to music?

Was it always having this issue in the shade since you had it?

Well it’s hard to say bc I got it in the winter time and it would happen then too but it happened even in the sunlight so my guess is it has something to do with the temperature too, the radio also worked fine at night during the summer because it would get so hot at night even

IMO that 25 yr old radio might be on the fritz. No reasonable explanation for only functioning in the shade. Check out Crutchfield.com for suggestions to update your Jeep as no one wants CDs or cassettes anymore. New head unit will give you all the ports you will need. Check out that thread on the $129 CJ. The last pages of the thread has him making an awesome stereo system.

I may be over thinking it, but if this happens in the shade, it may be that the lower temperature is "shrinking" the antennae contact just enough to not have a connection? I would start with the antennae, if this is a Radio only issue.
