I picked up a '91 4.0 and I've been having a problem getting it started - if it sits for a few hours (or over night) without starting, it takes quote some time to get it going. It's like its losing pressure somewhere. One trick I've figured out is to leave the key in the run position for a few minutes until I hear a ticking noise, that starts faint and then gets louder and louder and when it stops ticking i can start it. It doesn't always do this on the first try but after a few times of leaving the key in the run position it will work.

Any ideas what the issue could be? Bad injector? Fuel pump?

Welcome @Eifer29 ... too nice of a YJ to leave on the side of the road. Check fuel pump pressure and/or filter.

Sounds like the drain back valve is busted unfortunately I can't recall where the valve is located, in the regulator or the pump or both.
It could be a leaky injector draining the fuel in the rail as it sits, might be worth pulling them out and testing them.
