BAMF front bumper Install w/ pics

    BAMF front bumper install


    I figured a quick and dirty writeup would be helpful to those that haven’t don’t this type of modification before. Simple tools that most have in their garage are all that’s necessary.


    Also, this is for the steel Mopar bumper. I can’t claim that these photos or instructions will work for any other model of factory bumper.

    I had already removed my end caps for personal reasons, but it isn’t necessary when removing the entire bumper assembly.


    1st disconnect the fog light connector on the passenger frame rail. It’s a simple push clip style.

    Then, Let’s start with the sway bar skid(Rubicon model only?). Remove these bolts here.

    Next up will be the recovery hook mounting plate carrier(assuming that’s an apt description for what those bolts fasten). The Torx bit used was in my top removal kit.

    Then it was on to removing the two plastic clips that hold a plastic aero plate. They are a simple two piece clip. I removed them with my leather man. If I was at home, with access to my tool box, I would have used a plastic trim removal tool.

    After that, I removed the 4 5/8ths bolts that hold a backing plate to the frame.

    Now it’s time to remove the entire assembly. It may surprise you with its weight. It appears to be designed well for factory standards.


    Marvel at the gaping hole you’ve just created on the front of your Jeep!

    The mounting holes on the frame ends don’t seem to be perfectly symmetrical. The two outermost upper holes on either frame mounts needed to be drilled out. I used a step bit, so I can’t comment on size needed. Sorry.

    Last bit of work to do is actually mount the new bumper! BAMF supplies grade 8 hardware with washers and nylock nuts. German torque spec applied.

    I’ll do a light install writeup later when BAMF gets more amber BD lights in stock.

    I recognize that my stock skid does not mount up to the bumper. I believe BAMF has something in the works for that. But, honestly, I can’t wait to just replace the electro disconnect sway bar with an anti rock sway bar.

    A little update on that bumper.

    I installed the Baja Designs SAE squadrons for fog lights about a week after I installed the bumper. Great pattern and perfect for the winter season.

    Today I popped on the IggyCorp 9” rounds. I have a pair on the Tacoma and have been entirely satisfied with them. Iggy is a friend and I always support my friends businesses. I opted out of hooking up the running lights on these this time.

    While installing them, I came across something I thought might be my answer to my intermittent rough idle…

    It may be difficult to see, but at the tip of my finger you can see the mounting point for the air box top.

    As you can see, the hose clamp is clocked perfectly to interfere with the inner fastener for the air box lid. I don’t think that’s ever been sealed correctly. It was definitely an “Oh Jeep, why?” moment. I’ve never experienced something like this with any of my other vehicles…

    Intermittent problems are so hard to diagnose! Good observation, nice bumper and lights too. Does the brackets for the lights provide secure mounting so that they don’t vibrate?

    The brackets are stainless and robust. I have had zero slap or vibrations from them on my Tacoma.
