Coolant leaking...simple radiator swap?

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 125k.
I noticed over the past few days my coolant was leaking and it’s been getting worse. Couldn’t figure out where it was coming from at first, just looked like it was dripping down the front bumper. Now I can see it’s dripping from the passenger side bottom corner of the radiator.. is this just a simple radiator swap and it should be fine or could there be more to this. I’ve never had radiator problems or coolant leaks so I have no idea.. thanks for any help

 

Sounds like it should be just an easy swap I change my clutch fan and water pump when I had my radiator out just a thought

 

For the age, mileage and maintenance (or lack of) it is not unusual for a radiator to develop a leak. It could be time for hoses, thermostat, coolant flush drain and fill. Generally if you can remove the radiator you can put it back. Watch a few relevant u-tube videos and post what you decide and outcome.

 

Ok thanks guys. Do you think I should get some/all or none of the parts from a junkyard? Seems like it’s been one thing after another with this car since I hit 100k so I’m not really trying to spend a whole lot of money on new parts unless that’s the way to go with parts like these ...?

 

Buy all new parts. Check out rockauto.com if you have a local radiator shop they could possibly recore your old one but you’re probably going to have half as much in that you would if you just bought a new radiator

 

If that was my Jeep: new rad, hoses and coolant.

@Nated0323 just reading this thread now, and while I concur with @LYFZGOOD about new parts for a cooling system, I am not averse to using used parts if I know their history, or if circumstances warrant them, such as a new part not being readily available. Some junk yard parts are taken from almost new vehicles, and represent pretty good deals, imho.

 

I ended up buying a new radiator for just over $100 and bought new hoses and clamps. Pain in the ass getting out the old radiator/fan, but the new one went in much easier. Everything has been good for over a week now so should be all set now. Thanks for the input
