My Jeep overheats after driving for 20-30 minutes and it will not start again until it cools down, about 20 minutes. I’ve had the radiator flushed, and replaced both fans, hoses, thermostat and water pump. There’s no radiator leak and that looks good. Has anyone else had a similar issue? It’s stumping the mechanics and costing me $$$!

Confirm the electric fans are coming on at high temps and during a/c usage. Perhaps the fans are the issue or the relays that send the power to them

The fan motors were replaced and I had the relays checked when this started last year. It wouldn’t hurt to check again. Thanks

Next cheap check would be to replace the thermostat. Perhaps it was incorrectly installed or defective or whatever. Whatever you do....do not allow the engine to overheat and ruin something major like the head gaskets if not already.

I replaced the thermostat twice. It’s all quite frustrating

Did the Liberty overheat before replacing the water pump? Your post did not state a new radiator...perhaps its corroded within?

Yes, it did overheat before and after all the new parts. I’ve been to 4 mechanics and they agree that the radiator is fine and has no leaks. And it’s been drained, flushed and has new fluids. I have noticed that it doesn’t overheat as bad when I have the recirculating AC on as opposed to using outside air. And there is usually a funny smell.

Don't know how many miles you have on it, but a bad catalytic converter or collapsed muffler will cause increased back pressure and cause overheating. Regardless of mileage, a small head gasket leak can allow antifreeze to enter the combustion chamber and be burned off with the fuel with no sign of oil in antifreeze or antifreeze in oil. Antifreeze gives cats a very short life span (poor kitty). Only symptom of gasket leak is the mysterious loss of coolant without any apparent leaks. Have your mechanic do a back pressure test to see if your engine has the correct exhaust flow.

There is no coolant loss, but I will check out the catalytic converter and muffler. Thank you.

Thanks. I did have the fan replaced and it worked better for a little while. So I don’t think that’s my problem but I appreciate your comment. Thank you again
