Got this jeep about a year ago and just got it road worthy. But when the engine gets hot try to turn ignition and will not start?

Good lookin CJ! Does it crank when hot but won't start? Check for spark when hot, could be coil getting heat soaked. Keep us posted on results. Looking forward to seeing more of the CJ.

No, the starter does not engage..."turnover" when I turn the key in the ignition. Thoughts?

If starter motor spins but doesn't crank engine it's probably a bad solenoid. If the starter motor doesn't even spin, it's either a bad starter motor or no power or ground to starter motor. If you can hear the solenoid click when the key is turned to on, the solenoid has power but the starter yolk is probably worn to the point that it can't throw the starter gear forward to engage with the engine's ring gear. Starter yolk can sometimes be flipped over to use the un-worn sides of the pins. If either one is the problem, I'd replace both when the starter's out.

I apologize. I overlooked the part about it not starting only when hot. Also think I miss-spoke about the type of starter you have. Don't think CJ's have a starter yoke, only starter drive to engage with ring gear. Sounds like possibly a heat soak problem. Too much heat on the starter motor or starter drive. You can try something to shield the starter from engine heat and see if it makes any difference. If the starter motor spins, it's probably the starter drive having the problem.
