Hi, My wife and I have owned our Jeep(1987 YJ) for 7 yrs now and other than the 4" lift kit on it when we bought it , it's pretty stock, I6, 5 Speed trans (Peugeot). This year we have decided to upgrade our Jeep with almost everything from the engine to axles.

I've already received the complete MSD Ignition system I ordered for it today from Summit Racing... not installing it just yet... more parts on the way and in backorder... Holley 390 4barrel carb (electric choke) Offenhauser intake and a Comp Cams Xtreme 4x4 cam and lifter kit with new springs, locs and retainers.

The axle kit I'm ordering eliminates the vacuum to engage the 4 wheel drive on my YJ from 4WD.
The interior just new mounting hardware, seats and covers. We just replaced our soft top 2 yrs ago with a Rampage kit... great fit and tuff... just can't seem to figure out how to get the red mud stains (Southern clay) out from trail and dirt road rides.

6 inch fender flares from Smittybilt also front and rear bumpers & a 12,000 lbs rated wench from Harbor Freight not that I plan on using that much, but.. just incase and it looks cool ha-ha.

As I mentioned above the Jeep already has a 4" lift so I bought a 1" bodylift poly bushing kit with all new hardware giving us a total of 5"s of lift... for what we do it's more than enough.

I was hoping maybe someone who's made similar engine mods could give me a heads up to any issues they ran into pertaining to the MSD ignition? Thanks, Thrasher 87YJ

I run a one wire hei chevy distributor with the built in coil eliminating the ignition module and ECM (the nutter bypass). I also run Howell TBI, but now that FiTech is making 4barrell TBI for smaller applications I will go with them on my next build. I love the cam and intake you chose When I have to get into my motor I was planning on running the same cam. We used it in my buddy's CJ7 and it really woke up. If you have a vacuum pump brake booster it will likely be too close to the intake and carb. I had to move mine closer to the fender about half inch and put some washers under it on the passenger side of the booster to kick it over a little more in order to clear the the carb and carb linkage. Oh you gotta get a header. Heddman or hooker both make an inexpensive set. To keep them from rusting there is a new rustoleum engine enamel paint in black that is good up to 2000 degrees. Give us some pics!

    Here's my MSD stuff.
    MSD 31179 - Wires
    MSD 6201- Digital 6 box
    MSD 8207- Blaster SS Coil
    MSD 8516- Pro Billet Distributor

I'll take some before and after pics to post and start a build thread. I was planning on getting a header from one of those 2 specifically. Thanks for the heads up on the brake booster... didn't know that!

I just went outside and looked at it... I see no room to move my booster , the clutch reservoir is really tight against the booster. Maybe a spacer under the carb? I can't test fit anything until the intake gets here and it is on back order, it'll ship Feb 28th. Wonder if the same clearance issue is there with the Edelbrock intake?

Oh that's right. You have hydraulic clutch. Mine is Manuel linkage. You might check out different stores online to see if someone else has the offi in stock. Ive had summit tell me on ship day that it will take more time before it ships. If summit won't ship it that day I look elsewhere because of the delay issues I've had with them. Can't wait to see it all together. Where there's a will there's a way.
