Old School 88 YJ with new school upgrades!
Ok, so I inherited this jeep which was bought for my daughter as a grad present who drove it 2 times said she didn't like a 5 speed and tossed me the keys a few years ago, so forgive me if I mess up wording/terms/ etc I am a NOOB to this so here we go. Normal mods: 15x10 old school bullet holes rimes with 10/30 rubbers, 2 or 3" Lift (was told not verified), 10K winch multiple engine upgrades/overhauls as these old ones need, put a bullet in that old POC Peugeot tranny got a newly rebuilt BA15 upgrade and conversion done, front/rear axels replaced with newly rebuilt ones, etc as well as any upgrades/overhauls as was needed. New seats, custom-made mounts, and slides, (as someone jury rigged/welded in the wrong seats/and mounts), 4 point harnesses, new harness bar for correct install space for those harnesses, Completly new custom-built dash Thanks to Dan Diller @ Double D Fab! Double Din Pioneer Head custom installed in said dash with a metra splash guard kit by myself, Rockford Fosgate 1" tweets, RF 4/4.5 OEM replacement in OEM dash compartments, 4x 6.5 RF mids on an RF 300/4 channel amp, and 2 DVC 10" RF subs on a 500 RF amp, new soft top with hardware & a new hardtop (the previous owner left 1/2 the hardware for the soft top, a bikini top, and nothing else as far as a cover /not nor door tops, so I had to get newish doors with windows which I completely rebuilt locks, cranks, seals, etc. and locking center console. Next is complete paint with a little bodywork and an aftermarket ac I hope.
Ok background I am new to jeeps, however, my uncle has a huge shop about two counties over from me, he is a Korean war vet and he's great with any vehicle especially older like my 1988 Yj Jeep. Has the 4.2 6cyl (see other specifics upgrades, and major repairs etc on my bio, I guess). Anyway, was cranking/running fine until about 2 months ago I had to undo the bat while upgrading the jeep to Iintelitronix digital gauges. Now I can't get it to crank as I can’t get it to run, I can’t take it to him, So I called told him what it was doing, He came to the conclusion that the starter relay had died, after testing several things such as the battery, solenoid, and the starter. So, he ordered me a new one and had the parts store ship it to me today. However, they are not alike I am assuming the one on the jeep now is possibly oem. As it has two green wires coming out the top which goes in a wire loom running along the back firewall to I assume the fuse box/inside, Negative battery cable goes to the center, a wire goes to the solenoid on the starter, and four more small wires come out which also go in that same wire loom along the back firewall to I assume the fuse box/inside. The new starter relay is part number SR 123 by standard. This one has a single tab for fuel, one for ground, one tab for ignition, one for the solenoid on the starter, and a bolt for the battery in the center/top. Basically, he can’t understand when I describe the one in the jeep is different, he can’t nor will he use a cell phone for text/pic, etc. nor any of the other 3 working there understand when I say the old one has 6 wires, the solenoid one and one that is hooked to the neg bat cable and none of them are marked as to where they go/do. Can anybody tell or help me PllllUUUUUUSSSSSeeeeeee? Thanks, Joe
