My ABS light was flashing so I took my car in for a diagnostic. They had it for three days. They said it was the ABS computer. It’s on back order. They said it was safe to drive, but the abs system wouldn’t work. However, I noticed when I drove it off that the speedometer and odometer weren’t registering anymore. You could drive it and nothing showed up on the dash. I brought it back and they said the
speedometer registers the turning wheels and that part was also controlled by the ABS computer and it happened not because of anything they did, but because of random chance. It just happened to fall off when they happened to hook it up to a diagnostic.

My question is: is that even possible? I don’t understand why the ABS computer would control the speedometer display. I’m about to call their corporate office because they’ve now had my car for two weeks for a diagnostic.

    It’s a Jeep Patriot.

He just told me, “that’s a problem when you hook it up the a diagnostic. Once you TJ. The codes, those systems tend to fall off line like dominoes.” That doesn’t even make sense.
