Shop says I need new transmission ..cost around 3k. Want to confirm before they order. Upon slowing and speeding up the vehicle "clunks".. sound and feel of jeep. Engine mounts good. When I drive with overdrive button pushed (I keep under 55) in it doesn't happen. Trans replace?
    2. Water pump, hses and coolant cap replaced. However, after half hr drive, my fluid often comes out the coolant cap. And I top off a couple cups - quart every short trip. Try another cap or radiator? Suggestions or ideas?. Note: heat guage does NOT show hot.

I don’t have any information about the transmission but the vehicle is 20 years old no offense I would not put $3000 in it

hopefully someone else will chime in and give you some better advice the transmission might just need serviced I don’t know much about the Libertys if they have a filter or not.

Thanks. The jeep has extreme sentimental value or i wouldn't be considering it. I've prob already put 2k in it during the last year. Not wise but its where I'm at. Meanwhile I confess I absolutely love driving it. Thanks again.

Sounds like you have a couple separate issues that need to be addressed before it gets worse. If coolant is leaking from the cap on the radiator try a new cap. Any overheating? If the radiator is leaking then that should be addressed because if the engine gets damaged it might be game over. The cooling system on any older vehicle needs to be maintained (water pump, hoses, thermostat, coolant etc). Next get a second opinion on the trans. Any routine maintenance done on the trans like ATF fluid? ETC

No overheating per the dash gauge. But the pressure seems to build enough to spew it out the coolant cap. I replaced the cap a few mos ago and it has happened since... unless by some weird quirk I hadn't tightened cap enough. Thanks for help.
