Not new to Jeep's, as I have had plenty of them, just new to this Forum. Will have plenty of time to visit. Have had my 2015 JK for a while, and fixed it up for my uses. Had a little money to spend, and just scored another older 1971 CJ-5 to play with. For $1000, I couldn't pass it up. One of those "It was running when it was parked ... years ago!!"

Welcome aboard. You scored well on the CJ. I assume the factory 225 and Saginaw manual steering swap? Looks like the rear axle was swapped out at some point too. If it is a 71, that came originally with the flanged axle shafts-the best ever put in any CJ.

Hi there. Thanks for the welcome. Yes, 225 V-6, headers with shorty mufflers and side pipes. New springs on all four with about 3" lift built in and the EMU greaseable shackles. It has power steering, but not sure about it at all. Will get to spend the next few days crawling all over and under it.

So you're working on your 51 year old Jeep project and you need to pull the seats, and get the gas tank out. How awesome is your day going to be, when your first find in the dirt and debris is that 10MM socket that everybody always loses????? :)

When the SAE bolts rust and crumble sometimes the 10mm comes in handy.

Probably not intentionally, but it took both SAE and Metric, an impact wrench, impact chisel, sawzall, and Makita grinder with cutting disc to get the two seats and tank out today!!!!! :)

Tank cleaned and flushed, new fuel lines and filters, and back in. Headers and mufflers properly mounted with exhaust hangers. Battery pulled out and charging, cleaned out the mess of tangled wires all under the hood. Got the new seats and seat belts back in. Making progress slowly!!

Had just installed a new battery, and was on the passenger side. Got tangled up in power cords (I know, put stuff away when done) and took a spill, so grabbed the closest sheetmetal on the side of the body somewhere. Bled about a quarter of a roll of paper towels, then drove to the ER. :)

I travel out of state, and out of country often enough to keep all my shots current. It had been a few years, so we boosted my Tetanus again!!
