Long Trips

    We have taken a 6 HR round trip in the Jeep. Did great! We are going on a 10+ HR trip. One way. 20 hrs round trip.. I'm a bit worried. I'm still learning this vehicles quirks. How do the Jeeps do on long trips? Anything I should look for? Anything that should be checked over before we head out for long trips?

    I'm a bit of a worry wart....as you can tell....

    We have several long trips planned. I like to be prepared for the best and the worst.

    Once the routine/regular maintenance has been performed you should be GTG. I usually take extra auto fluids like oil, coolant etc on longer trips. Check your spare tire and carry some basic tools for roadside emergencies. This applies to nearly any vehicle. And enjoy the Jeep

    They're fine, other than not getting particularly good mileage. My wife and I enjoy road trips and make an annual Colorado to Indiana to Texas and back to Colorado trip to visit family. We plan different routes every time. It's about 4000 miles total. We've done it in her Wrangler, and gotten 13-14 MPG. Because if we're honest, the engines could stand to be a little stronger. And they have roughly the same drag coefficient as a barn. We have also made the trip in the Corvette. That makes for a different sort of fun. People are skeptical when I call it an economy car, but it really is. If I drive semi- sort of- kind of- the way the law wants, it gets 30+ MPG. But with 815HP, if we hit any kind of weather during the trip it has a fairly high pucker factor.

    Other than perhaps only a slightly civilized ride, noise, and road manners, you can drive any modern Wrangler as far as you want. No limitations any different than any other vehicle. I even made some long trips in a completely uncivilized flat fender Willys, both with the stock four banger and several different small block Chevys. Less comfortable but absolutely doable.
