Ok. I've heard about those types of products. Thank you for the idea.

Do that too. But given what your undercarriage looks like, your best bet might be to dip the entire vehicle into a big vat of POR-15. You're clearly not in a vehicle friendly environment.

I'm in Central NY. Where the taxes are high, the snow is deep, and the winter wind is wicked. Last year the state decided to try this awful brine on the road and it's terrible for the underside. I wonder if the car manufacturers came up with it to sell more cars as they get eaten alive.
Btw, definitely not in NYC. I grew up on a dairy farm. NYC is 4 hours southeast.

Hello, I'm back. The same Jeep quit on me the other day as I was coming to a stop sign, had been running just fine until then. We limped to the garage, stalling every time we slowed or stopped but always starting up again. After 3 hours and 8 'codes' which they got down to 4 codes the owner of the garage said it's not worth fixing. He was pretty rude about it. Now I know that there comes a time in every vehicles life when it must retire, BUT I can't afford a car payment right now so I want to patch it up if possible. He has all the codes which I think he'll give me, you guys helped me so much with my transmission support, I thought I'd throw my latest dilemma at you and see what you all say. My tenant/mechanic now has a bad kidney so IDK if he'll be able to do all the work suggested back in the fall. He may want to work off the rent if he's able since he can't go back to his job.
Anyway, the Jeep has run fine up until that day so I find it very hard to believe that it's not worth fixing. I know more about carpentry, sheetrock, wiring and plumbing than I do about vehicles. I wish I could do the work myself but alas I'm not able.

Short story. I had an o2 sensor go. I relied on some one to give me the right replacement. They did not. It thru 5 codes. Replaced the sensor and it's been fine since. So, all is not lost. My first questions. How many miles? What codes? What has the garage done to clear only 4 codes? Why do they feel it's not worth the effort?

I know one of the codes was for the O2 sensor. When I mentioned this to the owner of the garage he started listing all the reasons why I shouldn't fix it and was completely rude about how long my dad and I tend to keep our vehicles. In addition to the garage, he also sells used cars, Hmmm, any connection? I'm not buying anything from him. The only reason I went there is because my tenant/mechanic worked there but now he's retired so I'm not going back if I don't have to. So I will find someone to replace the O2.
My Jeep has 208K miles. IDK the codes, he rattled them off quickly in a show-off manner (can you tell I don't care for him?, his mom is even worse). I know one of the other codes is knock sensors and I've been driving it like that for a while. I have the knock sensors, new headlights and window/lock module in my EBay Motors cart so I'll add the O2. Luckily the other mechanic who works there is a friend and neighbor so I think he will give me the codes.
I only get on my desk top computer later at night, I don't do much but talk and text on my phone. Thank you for validating my thoughts on fixing the old girl for now. I like my Jeep, and it's hard to find an SUV which has a flipper back window.

Local auto parts store like Autozone/Advance should be able to get those codes for you. The other 2cent tip is to be careful with ebay / off brand products

I need to find that crossmember part as well but not because of rust. Mines got a dent(off-roading issues lol) and currently touches the exhaust pipe after I lifted the Jeep. Even with the spacer added it still touches a bit.

I bought the RockHard 4x4 Double Wall Crossmember last year and will install mine in the spring. I haven't installed mine yet. Prices have crept up like everything else.[IMG]
