This has happened to me twice this week and I'm hoping someone might have had experience with it in the past (my local dealer is clueless when it comes to just about anything).

I'm sitting at a red light. The light turns green. I take my foot off the brake and apply it to the gas. The engine revs, the vehicle doesn't move, and drive ("D") on the gear shifter starts flashing.

I have to put the vehicle into park until the drive indicator stops flashing stops flashing and then put it back into drive. It takes a few seconds (may 5-10)before the drive indicator illuminates, and then it drives fine.

This has happened to me twice in the last week. Any thoughts? Maybe electrical, transmission, unknown?

Am I reading correctly - the D3 starts flashing?
see your dealer, get a repair order generated.

    two thoughts -
    1) god willing you do NOT have auto stop.
    2) I Believe the flashing is a mismatch between the selected gear and the actual gear, that is the gear the trans is in.

Welcome @mgrosheim ...as stated the local dealer is the best place to take your JGC. Intermittent trans problem may show up when they scan for specific codes. I'd say your trans is giving you some warning signs. Report back what codes are found or the trans problem. That's the primary reason why my JK has the 6 spd manual....and avoiding the god willing dang auto-stop found in the newer models.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be making an appointment at another dealer/service nearby - the one where I bought it is rather useless. It's not throwing any codes, hopefully they can shed more light on it. And, no, it does not have auto-stop.

this just happened to me too, in my driveway. I started the jeep, put the selector on 'D' and the car behaved like it was in neutral... wouldn't move. the 'D' was blinking. the parking brake wasn't engaged. I restarted the car and the same thing happened. it would drive in reverse (on 'R') but it wouldn't move in drive (on 'D'). very strange! after a minute it cleared up and worked ok. anyone know what this is or what needs to be done to fix this? I wouldn't want this to happen while we're out in traffic...

For a new Jeep this should be covered 3yr/36k. Could be due to pressure switches or solenoids. Dealer has the specific scan tools to read trans codes. FCA AT.....this is why I bought the JK with the 6 spd MT which is not perfect and has its own quirks.

If your experiencing the flashing "D" it is due to either a door is not latched all the way or someone does not have their seatbelt on.

I am curious if anyone has figured out why this happen? I gave a 2022 Rubicon 4XE & I was in traffic sitting at a light and this happened to me. Said to put in park & Start. The “D” was blinking on the gear shift. I put in park and press start, still didn’t do anything for like a second, then I pushed start again and I was able to put back in drive abs continue on. Freaked me out. I haven’t even had this Jeep for 2 weeks. I called. Dealership & they are looking into it. I’m hoping this can’t happen while you are just driving. Mine happened while I was stopped at a traffic light. Thanks for any feedback.

The 4XE is a marvel in engineering when they run right and will likely require a visit to the Jeep dealer. They’re the only ones that can run a proper diagnostic and handle the repair(s). Too soon for the dreaded flashing “D”. Post up the the Jeep dealer diagnosis of the problem when it gets fixed.

Just happened to me. Slight incline with very light trailer attached. Flashed "D" and couldn't move forward. Moved when I put it in 4WD Low. Have an appointment with a dealer in a month (busy dealership) but would like to know if anyone had their issue looked into.

Did you hear anything back from the dealership BJC? I am having the same issue. It has occurred in 4low while wheeling as well as pulling up a slight incline. The most recent occurrence was pulling into my garage yesterday. I pulled up the driveway, waited for the garage door to open, then proceeded to pull in but the vehicle began to stumble and put itself into neutral and began flashing the "D" indicator on the shifter. I shifted it into neutral and then back into drive and proceeded to drive into the garage without issue. No CEL or any other warning light.

I have a Sahara 4XE and it happened twice when I was driving. I dropped off my car at the dealer and it ended up being the fuel pump was bad and needed to be replaced.

The same has happened to me five days back. My grand Cherokee 2020 which has done only 12k kilometres
Suddenly lost power while I was trying to stop at a signal and gear D started blinking. The vehicle refused to move despite repeated attempts of shifting to P N R. Finally had to tow down to the dealership. Till today they could not diagnosis the problem!!!

2021 Grand Cherokee. My wife has had the infamous flashing D on the selector lever, twice since we bought it new. She backed down our driveway that is somewhat steep, Selected drive after backing into the street then flash’s and won’t move forward. After sitting in the street blocking traffic while coming to track me down in our house to advise me of the issue, then Of course I shut the jeep off for a few seconds and restarted it and it drove normal. Yes the jeep has auto stop however I disconnected the low battery power connection to have it default the auto stop inoperative because I hate it. Yes you get a message at start up every time but I can live with that over auto stop. I highly doubt it will have triggered any type of failure code. It’s so random. I figure it some sort of software glitch in the trans control module. I will have it check for a updated calibration when I take it in for service that is coming due in the next few weeks.

Keep us up to date on the resolution. On some Honda V6 models the flashing "D" was usually a 3rd or 4th gear shift solenoid but its probably something else on Jeeps....And welcome to the forum

Anyone ever figure this out? Drove my brand new jeep Willy 4xe off the lot and it froze at the second stoplight I stopped at. D light was blinking and car wouldn’t let me change gears. Doors were closed, seatbelt on. Tried to turn car off and the service transmission light started blinking. Turned car off, waited a minute, then turned car on and could drive again. Currently waiting at jeep service to see if they can figure out what is going on.
