Electrical Issue? XJ (headlights, stall, no start, buzzing)

Hi,

This is my first post on a forum. In the past I usually found an answer or good idea regarding my problem on an existing thread. This time, not so much.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 (does that alone mean it's an XJ? - pardon the amateur question)

Back story:

Driver side headlight stopped working awhile back, passenger side would work if high beams were on. Learned the hard way that it wasn't faulty lights, since I replaced the drivers side to no avail. Then no headlights, even with high beams on.

Driving home one night and just as I got 10 feet from my garage, complete stall, power steering and drive stopped. Luckily my neighbor was in his yard at the time and helped me push it into the garage.

BTW had been having trouble starting.

replaced started a couple of years ago

2016 battery

so I thought I would replace the alternator and see if that fixed everything.
replaced it and no luck.

tried starting it again, and got a bunch of clicks. walked out of the jeep and about a minute later heard a buzzing. seems to be coming from somewhere behind the drivers side dash (easier to hear from under the hood). had to disconnect battery to make it stop.

Electrical issue?

Guidance appreciated!!
