WK Rear Pinion?

    For a few weeks to possibly a few months the rear of my jeep has been making a rubbing sound. Now the sound is getting louder and more violent. I would take it to the dealerhip and have them look but ive heard ( around my location ) is $115/hour to diagnose the issue but I'm low on money. I'm just trying to get some help. my dad seems to think its something caught in the e break drum.... but I really don't think that's the case. this is my first post on any kind of forum and I know how kind and helpful jeepers are. THANK YOU!!! Pic for attention

    How many miles? Have you ever changed your rear brakes. Around 120000+/- miles they are done. Your dad could be right.

    150,800 some. and is that really a possibility? I'm new to all of this kind of stuff even working on cars so its pretty foreign to me, and I'm lucky to have a father that used to be a mechanic. I'm hoping it could be just the breaks. Ive had it for 6 months and have put about 2-3k miles on it.

    I would not go to dealer unless you have a warranty. More likely ask around for a local mechanic who is respected among friends and/or family. Repairs should be at least half the cost of a dealership and diagnosis is usually free.

    So the grinding is probably brake pads worn down to metal on metal. The more violent noise you're describing is likely metal wearing down to a breaking point. The longer you wait the more parts will need replaced and the more expensive it is going to become. Ask your dad to look at it.
