I have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo inline 6 4.0 with roughly 260k miles on it, it’s my daily driver and I don’t have funds for a shop so here we are, I’ve been chasing this issue for about a month now, it’s started with a rough idle and check engine light, I got it checked at my local OReilly and they said crank position sensor so I did that, new spark plugs and also a new coil pack, trying to chase the issue, it ran great for about 20 miles yesterday after the coil pack, and I’m starting to run out of money so I don’t want to just keep throwing money at it, it misfires under 2k rpm’s but after that the misfire goes away, any idea what it is I’ve eliminated cracked head or vacuum leak as the main problem but not sure where else to go besides dumping money into injection and fuel. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated I’m not the most mechanically minded but being a YouTube mechanic doesn’t seem to help at the moment

There’s also a consistent but quiet tick in the engine bay while idling, hoping not a rod???

I had a miss fire replaced a lot of sensors and parts ended up one of the O2 sensor I purchased from a cheap store was crap. I got a new O2 sensor from Napa running great again.

Alright I had a similar problem so I have the 4.7 v8 non ho just finished rebuilding it after a week or 2 it started jerking right before 2k rpm and when I fall to 1k rpm but in-between said rpm it's fine rides smooth there is a lack of power so me thinking it's a misfire because it ran rough so went to see which coil pack was bad because I didn't have access to a scanner at the moment so I noticed even when I unplugged all 4 on the passenger side the idle didn't change so I replaced all the spark plugs and coil packs issue consistent at the time my check engine light wasn't working so I thought the ECU might took a dookie on me got a hold of a scanner and found out that all 4 O2 sensors were bad which is responsible for telling the motor based off given and receiving data it can shut off a whole bank causing it to act like a dead cylinder now if you have a ticking noise that's consistent like me it's most likely a failed hydraulic lifter or timing chain which can be verified with lifting the valve cover and moving it with a flat head screw driver the only way that I know about to test hydraulic lifter failure is to pull the valve cover off rotate the motor and wiggle the rocker arms if there's no movement then it ain't that one repeat till you've gone through each one mine ended up being cylinder number one exhaust rocker arm was rattling which tells you the lifter has collapsed which it's about 15 bucks off jegs to replace 1 lifter about 260 to replace all 16 if v8 not including valve cover and head gasket and timing cover gasket and other gasket prices
