Whenever I disconnect the battery from a vehicle during service I can expect the loss of stations and/or clock. On some systems the stations or clock is restored if power is returned shortly. Is your station or clock memory lost over night or instantly? Radio may be defective or the radio could be wired up wrong since some accessories work without the key (constant) and others require the key (switched).
