Gear ratio and Tires

    Hello Everyone,

    I am new to this forum and I am looking for some advice on tires and gear ratios. I have done a lot of research and it all comes back to a matter of preference...better gas mileage over power, power over gas mileage, and then middle of the road.

    I currently own a 2016 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock Edition. Bought brand new and came with Dana 44's front and rear and geared @ 4:10 and has 255/75 R17's BF Goodrich's. The tires currently equipped I know are equivalent to about a 32" tire but I'd like to go up to a 35/12.5 R17 without having to re-gear.

    My question is: Can I get away with equipping my rig with a 35" size tire without having to re-gear? And if so, what am I losing because I know what I'm gaining?

    Any help is truly appreciated.

    Yes you can without regearing. I ran 37s without regearing. I finally regeared when I went to 40s and I went with 5.13 gears. You will feel pretty doggy off the line and when trying to pass another vehicle. You will also lose a couple miles per gallon.

    I am currently on 37s with 4:10. It's not ideal but still works fine.

    Thanks OFFGRID. I appreciate the info. This is really going to help as I am set to pick up some pretty nice 35" NITTO Grapplers for a great price. I think eventually I will gear up to a 4:53 but for the time being I am happy where I am at. I am hoping that with the Banks Cold Air Intake I installed - it will help offset the gas mileage a bit but I know it's not going to be a lot.

    Stinger , smitty built winch , cold air , 93 tune , 30 inch Cooper tires stock height . Will update when I do more
    I have a tuner that does everything so don't worry about gas mileage if your going to upgrade to a tuner it will save u gas and add power depending witch tune you choose , also u can change the tire size in the computer so your speedo is correct speed at all times hope I helped u with gas mileage part.

    What type of tuner are you using? I know I need to get one if I am going to upgrade my tires so I can adjust my speedo. Thanks #teamdirtbash

    I have a Superchip. Retuned to the 305/17s im running now, from 225/16s. And lost less than a mile per. Also. From talking to several members here, and doing some research. I found the so called cold air intake systems don't really help. You can achieve the same air flow using a much cheaper air filter.
