I have a 2013 jeep patriot fwd. Its engine oil capacity according to the manual is 4.5. Since i accidentally overfilled will it damage my engine?

Your okay with the 5. You will burn off that extra half quart or more by the next oil change.

IMO I would remove some oil and recheck the level on the dip stick. Lift the Jeep onto jack stands, loosen the oil pan bolt and drain some oil into an oil pan.
