None - but I want too.
    Hello,

I just recently bought my first jeep. Its a 2014 Jeep wrangler sport 3.21 gears with 47,000 miles.

Few questions, Can I tow my 2,700 pound boat with the jeep geared with 3.21 gear ratio? Manufacturer's recommendation says no more than 2000lbs but does it really matter?

Also, this will be a daily driver. I do not want to get a lift. I want to get daily driving wheels with a wider stance. What do you recommend and what brand?

    Thanks

Welcome! The tow rating is pretty important to abide by. If you get a transmission cooler, and better gears, you could push it to tow your boat, but as is, I wouldn't do it often, or for long distance.

    • Chris is right! Towing beyond manufacturer's recommendation is never a good idea. Proper gearing, trans cooler go a long way for safe towing. Consider brake upgrades even for "short" trips.

Also non tow package differentials use 80w90 gear oil, with the tow package it moves to 80w140, might be tough with on the gears with the excess strain with a lighter gear oil.

Manufacturers recommendations (even VIN specific info) from the website/owners manual/salesman can be deceptive as well for instance they may not clearly advertise the payload with optional equipment added or the GVWR with certain trims. Find the tire and loading placard on the door frame and that will be the most accurate information. If you tow over that capacity you will likely do some damage to the vehicle.

I know this is an old thread but it is good info. Maybe it is an old wives tale, but I have alway been told to limit your tow loads to 80% of your vehicle's capacity to account for aging, emergency conditions and miscalculations.
