Engine loses power and throws codes on hills

    2001 Grand Cherokee Lorado
    I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee, 4.0 straight 6. going down the road I hit a hill, she starts losing power, engine light blinks. Multiple misfiring codes, 305 etc. I pull over, wait 3 minutes. I start her back up and she purs like a kitten. Engline light stays on, but runs fine. Get to another load requirement and it's all over again. But with no load, straight, level road she is fine. HELP!!!

    I dont have the codes with me, but i know they were low 300's. and multiple cyl misfires. when I pull over, there is no smoke, like unburned fuel. lts almost feels like a clogged catalytic converter going down the road, like im running on 1/2 the cyls. but its funny, i can stop the engine for a couple of minutes, crank it up and shes fine.

    Without the codes, I'd be shooting in the dark. Maybe someone else can pop in with some ideas.

    Post the codes by borrowing or renting (autozone) a decent code reader. That will help us help you.

    5" lift, 4.11 gears, tru-trac limited-slips, winch, bumbers... you know the rest.
    Only one thing will make a check engine light flash and that's misfires. Sounds like you have some bad spark plugs or low fuel pressure. If it were me I would pull a spark plug and see how it looks and hook a gauge up to the fuel system and see what the pressure looks like. These guys are right and you should always save yourself time by checking codes first.

    Blinking check engine light is definitely a miss fire as Smitty Jeeper stated. But here's a "go figure". My 2000 XJ had a overheating issue. When I shut it down and restarted at either a gas station, or during a State Inspection. It would start up over heated, missed fired, and had a blinking check engine light. I'd have to either let it sit for an hour or so to cool down, or just push threw the over heat, get the temp down. And it ran like nothing ever happened.

    I could never figure out what the issue was. And I just found a way to power through its issues. I pulled plugs, Checked sensors, plugged in superchip. No codes other than a misfire. But once it cooled down. Ran like a champ. I had the same issue with the original 6cyl, and a Jasper remaned motor. Never figured it out.
    Back to codes. Only code it ever threw. A misfire. o_O

    Edit. It failed a state inspection because of this issue. Took it to a local reinspec. station. Passed no issue.
