mileage. i got a low gas lite at 245 from last fillup.

filled at 255, 17 gal, 15 mpg. most short runs,10-20 miles and in town.

I'd like more but i do do some fun driving!

gauge was one line up at warning, can i figure about 20 gal to the bottom? or 3 gal left at warning.

    btw, running great!!

Running empty is rarely a fun experience so I don't usually wait for the gas light warning. MPG between 16-20 is my typical range. It's a Jeep so just enjoy the ride.

Most modern fuel pumps are inside the tank, and use the surrounding fuel as the cooling medium, so running under 1/4 tank for long periods is generally a way to kill the pump sooner, rather than later. I try to fill up around 1/4 tank, and only run it under than when needed. Just an FYI.

Like Chris said it's hard on a fuel pump when ran below a 1/4 tank.. I've been round and round on this fuel mileage thing. There are so many things you can do to help your Jeep get better mileage but in turn it cost $ and you won't get much better mpg. So the two biggest things I've found to increase mpg is fuel injector upgrade and gear to tire size ratio. There are small things that help like free flowing exhaust, bigger throttle body and smother intake pipping (not "cold air"). After spending thousands of dollars I increased my mpg by 3-4 mpg. If you think about it is going to take me years to get my money back in the mpg I save. So in my experience, for what it's worth, I would do an injector upgrade and run ethanol free fuel. Biggest bang for your money.

2oldjeeps. I assume your talking about one of your XJs. My 2000 XJ typically got 15 -16 mpg. 265 miles between fill ups before the idiot light came on. And that was the case for the 14 years i owned her. I was OCD like when it came to maintaining her. As I'm sure you are. Well, maybe not the OCD. Lol. But your right in the range of mpgs I was getting. I don't think it's because of any thing your doing or not doing. Its just what they get per gallon. Just enjoy your jeep dude.

Both my auto XJs got/get about 18, my 5 speed would get about 20mpg.
All are/were stock. The 93 5 speed is in the process of becoming not so stock.
