Morning, I have an 83 CJ7 with an ID 4 cyl. Was getting the usual valve train noise but then I started noticing (when hot) a Louder tapping sound during the high end of each gear range during that level period just before you shift. If I let off, it goes away. When I shift it goes away until the high end of that gear etc.
Thought maybe I had one lose rocker. Pulled the cover, found a couple rockers loser than others. Tried to tighten but the bolts were already real tight. The couple I was able to turn really only turned a 32nd of a turn or so. (Maybe an inch at the end of the long ratchet handle).
I read all about the non adjustable valves and to just torque the bolts +3/4 turn past zero lash but in this case the adjustments were very very slight.
Now I noticed popping on deceleration and she wants to stall a lot.
What the heck did I do ??? lol. Please any ideas?
