My steering column has a plastic ignition area. I believe this is pretty common. Can't just find the ignition housing. Looks like I'll need to buy a whole steering column. The replacements I have found all use a sleeve over to connect the steering column to the steering actuating linkage. Sorry if I'm not using the correct lingo. My steering column uses a spline type connection.
Does anyone know a "work around". To just buy a new steering column is almost $1000.00
    I'd like to avoid that.
Is there an alternative steering column that will work? I've heard there may be GM steering column. Is there a vendor you would ask?
    What would you do?

I would first suggest a local junkyard. Take your old parts down or take pics and dimensions. Then there are specific Jeep junkyards like this one:https://www.jwjeep.com/.

As JB said. Look for some local yards specific for your cj7 and you’ll find one or two. eBay and Amazon work nice too.
