1992 jeep Cherokee over heating

    I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee It was running about 195 at idle I went off roading it got up to 230 mainly sitting idle in line waiting. I brought it home put a new water pump new thermostat housing took the thermostat completely out bypassed the heater core flushed out the radiator put all new antifreeze in and it still runs 195 at an idol with no thermostat so im afraid it's gonna run 230 or more trailling again why is it getting hot all my fans seem to be working good

    Welcome @Deerfan44 any debris or winch or accessories reducing airflow up front? Aging radiator may not be leaking but could have clogged passages. Just tossing a few ideas out there.

    Nothing blocking in front, I was thinking maybe radiator myself........ I may just have to do that

    lets flush and back flush the heater core, replace those hoses.
    Replace thermostat, 195 is called for.

    Is this an elec or mechanical cooling fan? and I believe it was engine driven.
    But 1992 has been awhile.
    Are all the shrouds in place?

    It has electric and mechanical fans, they both work

    do you have AC?

    wITH shroud intact, elec fans coming on @190 deg, correct thermostat, heater core connected, correct Water pump, there is 2 available* - look at old pump and compare vanes direction to new unit. Yeah it not always fast easy. Sounds like a clogged radiator.

    *this is what part professionals do - there was a reverse flow used, when and why IDR - there was a R stamped on the impellar.

    IIRC the electric fan doesn't kick on until abt 213° or when the AC is on.

    Fuel Injection, Dana 44s, T18, 4.10s w/lockers
    It is probably a bad fan clutch, For sure put that thermostat back in. I always like to drill a small 3/32" hole in the thermostat housing so air can pass thru at the first startup after any cooling system work.

    old old school trick - when installing T'stat prop the valve open with an aspirin*, this will help bleeding and shortly dissolve.

    *any thing tic tac, aleve, etc

    Put a new radiator in and it's fixed, temp stays at 150 for an hour of running. Now to put thermostat back in. Thanks for all the help peeps
