Has anyone else had the issue of the part time 4x4 light coming on when in 2 wheel? What can be done to fix the issue? Thank you

Welcome to the site! Can you give more details, such as, is this happening when off road, all the time, etc. ?

It happens sporadically. I can be stopped and it comes on, I can start it and it will come on. I have put it into 4x4 and back into 2 wheel and it will come on. It's never a set thing that sets it off. I hope that makes sense

welcome to the club.... :jeepwave: hope we can help'

OK no 4wd light BUT you can feel it engage 4wd.
Likely its a switch/sensor is acting up, the vehicle is 15 years old... age and sticking from T'case fluid getting sticky.
Do not want to put you off with TMI - there are 3 transfer cases NV147, NV242, NV247, if you can tell me I will post a diagram to assist. OR let me know and maybe I can think of a way to ID which case.

It should be an easy repair.

Trout season is why its 4wd.

Attachment shows atypical NV T'case location of switch
