My heater core hose split and is spraying coolant everywhere... Could this be because the hose is maybe old and wore out or its clogged and the pressure caused it to split ?

I would go with old, as the material gets older and in a heated compartment it can dry out and crack. There used to be a rule of thumb to replace all hoses after 40 thousand miles. A hose repair kit in the vehicle is a good idea when you are out on the road.

Negative to clogged system or pressure. If you are due for a coolant flush you got one started. Replace hose and inspect the condition of any other hose(s)

I know this probably sounds like a bad idea and probably cheap, but I bought a can of flex Seal to still up the hole it wasn't really that big and water was only coming out of a little hole at the end of the split. Figured I'd spray it down with the rubber spray and use that as a temporary fix until Friday.

Splice, plastic connector and pair of small hose clamps

I'd flush the system and replace the hose...not repair it.
Peace of mind down the road...Especially if you take it off the road!
