help me help you- 1st have coffee, then we identify and plan.
    OK history -
    1) you changed the headlight switch? Why
    2) you removed cleaned and replaced the NSS - correct? jeep starts now ok?
    3) Anything else - wiring, fuses, electrical ?

    Issues you have
    A) no OD ?
    B) no CEL light when starting jeep? Scanners won't communicate?
    C) brake lights inop?

    4. Cant communicate with code reader
Im thinking i.may need new computer
So...ive also been to other forums, but knowbody is replying so...
    Thank you tho

I changed the headlight switch cus the rod came out. There actually was a spark when that happened but no fuses blew...still had OD. It wasnt untill i put a new headlight switch in and blew the headlight fuse..once i replaced that fuse is when my engine light was on etc..

ok I am busy AND having trouble accessing the 1998 jeep information - OEM manual- I can handle ( adapt and overcome)
The issue we will address first is the CEL.
The CEL being ON we know there are codes...
You did view tutorial on accessing with the key on off trick?
Be sure its just the ON/run position not start you switch back and forth to. And finish in the on position - try again -your lucky.

    TMI
My experience when scanners cannot communicate the issue is - no power (12v) on cavity 16 of the DLC.
How is your comfort level with a test light ?
NOTE you worked on headlight switch AND this supplies 12v to cavity 16 of ALDL on one of the wires.
The circuit runs to the PDC (underhood fuse box) and a fuse.

Getting that exact fuse # and location is what I am searching - I mentioned problem with 1998 manual.

    SO
relax and try key on off trick again.
Advise me if yu can use a test light or a multi meter?

OK I am busy at work and not 100% time wise - so S L O W going.
With key trick look at odometer not the CEL* - thats your mileage not the light it should change to information ie 51 or P0302 characters.

THE DLC, RE cavity #16 - Diagnostic Link Connector, where the technician would plug in to access your computer.
I will add a diagram ASAP - have coffee/tea talk to dad about the tester.

under the dash is the DLC it looks like the diagram -

look where cavity 16 is - in a corner of the connector. I believe there is no power here and what we need to check -

The 4 corners of connector have terminals 1,8, 9, 16 - only the one we are interested is connected - so if confused just check all 4.

Yes I know we still have brake lights and trans shifting to do BUT plan the work and work the plan

Lunch time soon I will have a few free minutes. let me know..

Ohh take your time, im delirious and operating on sleep deprivation lol.

The place were tech will plug in pc does not work..they cant communicate...so the odometer thing isnt bringing up any errors
Ive tried just about everything, from unplugging battery to stepping on the gas peddle 3x fast lol

"What we've got here is a failure to communicate" We are trying to repair the

We are trying to repair the connector, and the checking for voltage at #16. My experience this circuit is first place to check. ESPECIALLY as it runs to headlamp switch.

Then we will scan and retrieve any codes -

There is a reason to my logic.
