Welcome @Joelmooch ...depending upon how the '06 has been used and maintained will determine how it performs 13+ yr later. The 6 cyl is the optimum choice but the 4 cyl will adequately do the job. Check out the active TJ build thread to see what may be involved.

what you asked for My 2¢ Short and to the point. maybe TMI BUT-
personally I am skilled with jeep and would look at other model years as the 2005 and 2006 have an issue with CMP sensors and the vehicle PCM, which does NOT have a workable solution at this time.

Factor your skill level and the issue into price.

For more details google using - 2005 2006. OPDA and CMP, p0340.

Sorry but you asked - and should know.

I am interested in your thinking here.

Sorry it took so long to get back. At work and was busy. The info was what I was looking for. It only has 74000 miles and obviously has been garage kept the plastic on the windows of the soft top are still clear. We have a 2000 Wrangler with the 6cyl and it180000 miles on it. Had second gear go out in the automatic trans. Replaced it with a Jasper rebuilt and have 50000 on it with no problems
