Will this pass NY DMV inspection?

When it gets warmer you could search local pull-part yards for cats or make the engine just meet non-CA emissions

What I'm wondering is the motor is a 97 so it the title but the other one that was in it was a 2000 so are 97 CA emissions?

@Billy1234 . How rude to be poking with sticks....:boink:.

My 2000 XJ had CA emissions on it also too. No place had the parts the mechanic needed. To replace the system. And the cats were special order from CA. And they were extremely expensive. As far as finding them in a you pull it yard. You won't. Because they have rare metals in them. The yard pulls them before sending them out to the yard. I know this from personal experience whem myself and jeepmafiamama went on a CAT hunting trip.

Also. If you try to get a NY emissions system on the XJ. You may have mounting issues. Because they are 2 entirely different exhaust systems. Had that issue with mine. You may have to have hangers welded up.

    :boink:

I’m curious did gutting the cats cure your problem?? I thought for sure after reading this you had a vacuum leak.

What I'm wondering is. If the set up was different from my 97 that the engine came from and this "2000" that it's in now. The only thing that was used from my other one was the engine everything else exhaust, intake n what not were off the "2000"

What is the other problem that popped up? In 1999 on forward that head, intake manifold and exhaust manifold all changed so maybe there’s a problem there? I’m not 100% following you on what engine combination with what parts you are using.. keep in mind they also used two different water pumps that flow in different directions depending on how the belt is routed.

I didnt know about the different flow for the water pump. But I'll brake it down quick. I had a 97 2 door xj 5 speed that started craping the bed. So I went and bought another xj the ad for the xj said 2000 but the title I have is for a 97 but is for the current jeep witch I think is a 2000 cause it has coil pack instead of the distributor cap. Anyways swapped the engine from the 2 door in to the 4 door and used everything from the 4 door water pump intake, exhaust manifold and the whole exhaust. So I ran in to a problem with the belt slipping off like crazy (fixed that) next it some what overheated I think the gauge didnt get up to 260 but it puked. Then we had the what sounded like a vacuum leak witch was clogged mini cats (fixed) now it overheated again (temp did not go up to 260 just puked) . I think I just need a new radiator. The 4 door jeep befor I changed engines had 240k on it. Sorry for that being kinda all over the place trying to remember what I've done so far
