I have been researching tires and I'm learning slowly... Question is my 2014 Jeep JK has a factory rim that is 17 x 7.5. So when I'm looking up a tire do I have to make sure that the rim width of the tire is 7.5 as well?? Example. The specs on a Falken Wildpeak AT3W are saying the rim width is 8 inches. So that won't work on my rims? I'm reading the Q&A's and they're saying it can be used. What am I missing here?? thanks in advance...

In general if the tire manufacturer specs recommend 8" for their specific tire, some tire installers may not mount the tires on a narrower wheel as per company policy.

So is it common to put a 8" on a 7.5 and is this safe? I appreciate you explaining this to me.

Generally it's important to stay within the range of approved rim width/tire size combinations. It is possible to mount a tire to a rim width that is not recommended but most installers probably will not mount a tire to a rim width that's not recommended.
