    Hey all !

So I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that’s throwing me the p1686 code for no skim bus communication. I’ve had issues with this in the past , like new key programmed about a year ago, with still being intermittent problem. Fixed for a year then came back. Fixed again by zip tying and throwing some dielectric grease in skim connector. Now it’s doing it again.

Basically I’m done fiddling around with the skim. Anybody no where I can buy a new pcm with the skim fucnction reset/deleted? I know I can send it out to be reprogrammed but I’d not take the chance the pcm circuit for skim has internally shorted.

    Thanks!!!!!!

I do not think you can remove the SKIM - and the PCM's online are worse than a crap shoot.
Yes they claim to BUT I am not convinced. More Details later .

First I would look at the wires at the SKIM module, the first several inches idswhere they often fail.

    - you have both keys and they both give same issue?

Not ignoring you BUT its Sunday and family and BOURBON are calling.

    No worries, in no rush.

    Thanks for the replies!

So I ohmed out wires using wiring diagram and there good, and only one key and it’s good ( pretty new).

I’d like to send my pcm out to have skim deleted. There’s a bunch of companies that do it that I’ve emailed with positive feedback ( example Garrett tuning?). I’m getting the start stall symptom. Key light stays on and no cluster movement. I have a feeling it’s my skim module. I don’t have access to a drb3 scan tool too see what’s going on in module . Was thinking of taking it apart to look at connectors and capacitor and such internals. Just kinda done with whole situation and don’t want to shell out big bucks on new module and reprogram. Would rather send out pcm and have deleted for far less. I’ve seen tree diagrams for problem but don’t have access to drb3 like previously stated.

So I guess it’s process of elimination but I’d rather eliminate the whole system. Thanks again guys!!!!!!!
