I am trying to identify the axle in the pictures. I was told it came from a 2 wheel drive mail jeep. I am trying to see if Wilwood offers a disc brake conversion to fit it but need to know what jeep came from.

Front or rear axle? DJ5s came with a Model 20 axle in the rear. Not sure what they had in the front.

[IMG]Properly identifying a Model 20 is pretty simple. Take a look at the pumpkin (the centersection of the axlehousing) and examine the diff cover. A Model 20 has a rounded cover with no drain plug, kind of like a ball that has been cut in half. Also, the cover attaches to the axlehousing with 12 bolts.

The AMC 20 is a great axle with 2 weak links. The first is 2 piece axle shafts. Replace them with chromo 1 piece shafts. G2 shafts are $200+/-. 2. The axle tubes are pressed into the pumpkin. They need to be spot welded to prevent them from spinning out under load. The ring gear of the AMC 20 is bigger than the Dana44 ring gear making it a stronger axle set up . Yes in stock form it is weak, but it can be made really strong.

Thanks guy's. It is an axle in a sand drag jeep I just acquired. It does not have brakes on the front axle and I would like to add them but Wilwood needs to know the axle model to see if they have a set of brakes for it.

I have done a little research to figure out what might be compatible with your front end. The old Mail Jeeps (DJ5) run the same drum brakes found on the 1975 CJ5. The 75 CJ5 runs a Dana30 up front. Quadratec makes a Disc brake conversion for the 75 CJ5, but I cannot confirm that it will work on your axle. I would think so, but I don't know if any mods were made to your axle for your setup. A call to quadratec might help. Here are 2 links you might be interested in:

Possibly, but the Dana 25 is a ball and socket kingpin like steering knuckle. It is really neither. It should be a solid bar across where the pumpkin would have been because it it 2 wheel drive. Just trying to figure out what parts will fit on it. Here is a Dana 25:
