ok the buzz word is 'skins' - done it many times other brands than jeep - I see many asking about this
so called reproduction upholstery for jeeps - might be a niche for the aftermarket business.

If you can do L and R seats @ 250$ - a video on you tube, you got something ca ching $$$$

Its cost plus NEVER what the market will bear. except for that levis option ;)

Hey FYI Ford explorer gen 2 came with a Ford 8.8 ie Ford 9 inch that is stronger than a d44 and most came with Lim slip and 4.10 gears they are perfect width for a Jeep TJ the wrecking yards are full of them you can pick one up for about 250 usually.....oh yeah same bolt pattern as Jeep also

I guess nobody is going to ever want my Jeep CJ, I have had it for over 30 years, taken it to Western favorites like Moab, Rubicon, Hammers, The Dusy, Surprise Canyon , along with many others and it shows it. Although I do try to take care of it so it can go to the next place I take it and back.

Once I am done with this TJ, I will likely sell it and look for a TJ Rubi.

Nice to know it’s not just me. I looked everywhere for a stock Jeep that was in good shape. This one showed all the signs of being a good one but I’m finding issues the more I drive it. (Throwing multiple codes) She was car faxed with one owner. Over 200k miles but very very little wear and tear on interior or body. Surface rust on frame but that’s to be expected on a Jeep that is 15 years old. She’s still my favorite headache. CC4B2139-E085-44B2-BF4B-097EE6D3D5AD.jpg

I'll be honest, I bought my TJ with a plan of restoring/refurbishing it and then flipping it in a year or less, so that I could move on to a Rubicon TJ. While that could still happen, I have to admit the more I work on this Jeep, the more in love with it I am falling. Its a bit like a problem child, it may have a few quirks, but loving it and working with it more makes it all seem better.

As I am out driving around in my JLUR, I can't help but speed up to catch up with another TJ to see what they have done with it. My plans for my TJ continue to evolve. Next week, all my parts for a body lift, coil spring and shock lift, and replacement of all the control arms arrive and I will likely get started. Once I see its stance and handling, then I can make plans for wheels and tires, but that leaves the interior striped out. So I continue to work with my problem child to make it a bit less problem some every day!

I had a guy ask me if mine was a 2018, should have seen his face when I said she’s an 04 with 200k miles. Wheels and tires were the only thing ever done to her and her interior is perfect. Just figuring out this skip on cylinder 3 is blowing my head. Lol done everything I know to do and had suggested. Thought I had beat it yesterday and 40 min later I shut her off and as soon as I satiated her she threw the same dang code. About ready to drop a 350 in her lol

Mine is an 03 with 208,500 on her. It seems to run great, plenty of power. I found a local shop that sells re-built 4.0's, totally redone and painted, looks like a new crate motor. I'm saving his number for the day this engine gives up the ghost.

Not sure where you live, but this guy is in Dallas, TX. Here is a pic of one he currently has done and ready to go. You can purchase as is, add compressor, alternator, and power steering pump or not. He also does installs if desired.

He told me he will paint the parts to what you want on your rig, no extra charge.

I talked to him on the phone this past week after I saw his posting on Craigslist here in Dallas. While I'm hoping to get a bit more life out of my 4.0, I plan on stopping by his shop in the next week to check things out a bit closer. He quote a "ballpark" price of about $2500 as it appears in the pic, closer to $3k if I wanted new alternator, power steering pump, and compressor. The prices sounds like there might be some wiggle room, oh and $900 if he does the install. The price requires that you leave your 4.0 as the core deposit.

It sounds bit high to me, but I want to see what he's doing to the engine to call it re-built before I pass judgement (or any cash).

Here is the link to his posting - https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/d/garland-jeep-wrangler-40-new/6887972805.html

Yeah rings and bearings don't equal a rebuild in my mind more like a refurbish

Funny what some ppl consider a rebuild... I’ve seen some pull motors from junkyards, clean them up and sell them as rebuilds. Call them out on it and you get told to get off their property real quick and told you don’t know a thing about a motor, but yet the proof you pointed out can’t be denied.

I am the third owner of a heavily modified '79 CJ7. But... I received the "Jeep Bible" with the purchase. A huge folder of everything done to the jeep by the previous two owners. All receipts. Original owners manual for the Jeep and the '72 Chevy truck that donated the power. Hundreds of papers. It took me hours to organize. It still takes a while to look up info, but it is there. 58587486675__371C6A1F-6AD0-44A4-85F0-071333DC47E8.jpg58587483858__3ABA023D-3E9F-4545-B46F-3C6D19A23AAC.jpg58587483858__3ABA023D-3E9F-4545-B46F-3C6D19A23AAC.jpg
Hell yes, polish and clean, even turds. That is why I sell things quick and have nice vehicles - even old ones!
